Today is our annual Crozer Cup competition, which this year is in an Escape Room format. The residents and medical students were divided into 4 teams. They had to “conquer” 3 escape rooms: Airway room, Emergency Cardiology room, and Ultrasound room. Each team had to go through multiple tasks, timed and graded by an EM attending who “owns” the room.

Let’s take a closer look at each room.

The Airway Room:

ABC is the mantra of any EM doc. Airway is everything if you want to save a life. Here the residents need to recognize various “dire” situations that may come their way during a shift and be able to secure that airway.

Cardiac Emergency room:

As the residents get on a virtual plane to go their Resident Wellness Retreat, the flight attendant announces various cardiac emergencies. And of course our residents are the best ones to have on board. They successfully resuscitate multiple patients whose lives are in danger.

Emergency US room:

The residents have to demonstrate various US techniques which are used in the ED and they need to take correct views and record correct video clips that clearly demonstrate their proficiency with the probe. They successfully perform FAST/EFAST, cardiac echo, quickly find anatomic landmarks to help them with various invasive procedures.
